We are a nonpartisan organization devoted to advancing knowledge about British politics. The Group was founded in 1975 to encourage the study of British politics in North America. Today we have over 200 members, of whom most are political scientists in the United States, United Kingdom, and other countries. Many of the leading scholars of British politics worldwide are members.

Our activities include:

• Sponsoring panels at the American Political Science Association. the world's largest political science meeting.
• Holding special one-day conferences. In 2010 we met in Washington for "The UK & US in 2010: Transition & Transformation." This followed 2007's Britain After Blair. Papers from that meeting were published by Palgrave as The Blair Legacy: Politics, Policy, Governance, and Foreign Affairs, edited by Terrence Casey.
• Maintaining an electronic Listserve.
• Publishing a quarterly newsletter.
• Finally, we sponsor three scholarly awards: The Samuel H. Beer Prize for the Best Ph.D. Dissertation on British Politics by a North American scholar, the Stokes Dissertation Fellowship which helps finance research, and tThe James B. Christoph Prize for the Best Paper on British Politics by a junior faculty member.
